There are days when you feel like everything speaks to your soul. When the breeze rustling through the trees is your friend, telling you of precious secrets. When the rain beating down on the ground is a song you understand, and—what’s more—is your song, too.
It is then that you become creative, that you dust off the corners of your soul, and spread your wings, and show the people around you who you really are.
Dear heart, I wish days like those were days you can experience every single moment of your life.
The truth is, I haven’t made time for myself in that way lately. I haven’t made time for beauty—whether to give it or to appreciate it.
I am caught in the rush of things, and I can’t seem to get out of it. But that does not stop the yearning, that does not stop my soul from feeling the parched land like it is now because I can do everything I need to do, but if I ignore what it is I want to do, the very reason why I am alive, why my soul sings, then what is the point of it all?
Dear heart, don’t forget to make time for beauty. Give yourself grace on the days that are hard to get through. Instead of pushing ahead with everything you’ve got—ignoring these feelings of exhaustion, of restlessness, of discontent, stop and take a deep breath. Take in your surroundings. How long has it been since you lifted your head from where you are so focused to look beyond what you normally see? How long has it been since you appreciated the beauty of the things around you? How long has it been since your set yourself free, allowing yourself to be creative, to sing the song of your soul?
If your answer—like mine—is that you cannot remember, then you know what you must do next, hard as it may be. Let go of it all—the things you need to control, the anxiety when you think of the things you must do. Let go of to-do lists, and the endless worrying that things might not turn out the way you want them to. Take a deep breath and look beyond what you normally see every day. Look to the stars, look to the light. Look to the thousand different beautiful things around you and appreciate them for what they really are, learn from them, love them for the beauty they bring into the world and into your life.
